Little fish in a huge pond

Sat Aug 8, 2009, 4:50 AM

This title has nothing to do with the newborn fish my flatmate has and she is waiting for them to grow so that they can go in the big tank.
It also has nothing to do with the lyrics of 'Lost', where there is a big fish in a little pond.
This is about me feeling that I have already gone into the big tank, or the huge pond, and I will never be able to explore it thoroughly!
Every now and then it hits me, there are so many things to learn, so many things I haven't touched even with my little finger, it's overwhelming.
I want to learn as much as possible, and do almost as much...But, no matter what I do, no matter how hard I'm flapping my fins, I don't seem to get very far! Luckily, I can see that this statement is very true in relation to the size of the pond, but quite wrong in relation to everything else.

'Teach us to care and not to care.
Teach us to sit still'...
(yes, I'm still reading that poem over and over again!)

Enjoy the sun that decided to come out at last.

'Because I do not hope to know
The infirm glory of the positive hour
Because I do not think
Because I know I shall not know
The one veritable transitory power
Because I cannot drink
There, where trees flower, and springs flow, for there is nothing again'
